Questions to ask any recruiting provider
Evaluate the provider against your actual role and hospital requirements. Request clear answers and written terms rather than relying on a generic ranking.
- Who sources candidates and what screening is performed?
- What will our practice need to do during the search?
- What becomes payable if the search does not result in a hire?
Prepare the role brief
Write down the information a candidate needs to evaluate the position before the search begins.
- Separate clinical sessions from protected leadership time.
- Define authority over standards, mentoring and clinical decisions.
- Explain reporting lines, budget input and measures of success.
Plan the work location in Indianapolis.
Name the street address, the neighborhood or municipality and the county. Within Marion County, Speedway, Beech Grove and Lawrence are separate municipalities rather than Indianapolis neighborhoods, and Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville and Greenwood are in other counties. Coverage on this site is limited to Indiana; a hospital across the line in Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan or Ohio falls under that state’s licensing board. Let candidates judge their own commute against the actual shift times.
Give the hiring team one brief for each facility, with clinical work, support staffing, weekend duties and location commitments stated together. For regional positions, list the hospitals, planned visits and how schedule changes are communicated. This site describes employer hiring coverage without claiming an Indianapolis recruiting office.

MedVet Indianapolis lists a medical director and a separate hospital director among its hospital leaders on its own website, and VEG's Nora page names a medical director for its 24-hour hospital, so an Indianapolis medical director brief should say which operating decisions sit with a hospital director or practice manager and which clinical decisions stay with the medical director. The Indiana Board of Veterinary Medicine's standards of practice rule lets the board discipline a veterinarian who permits, delegates or requires an employed veterinarian to perform duties improperly, and its facility rule sets minimum standards, including a designated surgery area, sterilization and surgical emergency equipment where aseptic surgery is performed, so the role should name who maintains those standards at each site. Controlled substances add a site-level duty, because the board requires a separate registration for each location where a practitioner administers, stores or dispenses them unless the practitioner works under a facility registration, and the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association's Power of 10 program, held in Indianapolis and limited to 10 veterinarians a year, is one in-state development step for a doctor moving toward a leadership role.
Plan Indiana credential checks before the start date.
Assign a person to verify license status, record the date and resolve questions with the Indiana Board of Veterinary Medicine. Check any additional specialty credentials required by the employer with the issuing organization. Registered veterinary technicians hold a separate credential from the same board, so include them in the check when the role depends on technician support.
